Wales Start-up Award Winners

The winners of the third annual Wales Start-Up Awards were announced in September 2018 at an Awards ceremony held at The Depot in Cardiff, Wales and hosted by BBC presenter Sian Lloyd.

The welsh-startup awards – the only ones of their kind in Wales to recognise those new businesses less than three years old – saw over 200 entries from across the country with Cwmbran-based Freight Logistics Solutions scooping the award for the best start-up in Wales.
In addition to winning the overall award, Freight Logistics Solutions took home three more awards – Global Start-Up of the Year, Services Start-Up of the Year and Cardiff City Region Start-Up of the Year Award.

With overall sponsorship by Capital Law, there were a total of 20 awards in contention on the night.
Alys Carlton, Partner at Capital Law, said:
“For me, the judging process for this year’s Welsh Start Up Awards was essentially a private showcase of the genuinely innovative and forward-thinking talent that there is in Wales and what a privilege it was.
“We’re pleased to be able to support the finalists to gain the exposure they deserve. Lots of these businesses are just at the start of what promises to be an exciting journey – for them, and for the people their products and services will impact. Pob lwc i bawb!”

Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, Founder of the Wales Start-Up Awards and Chairman of the judging panel, said:
“This year’s awards have demonstrated the enterprise, innovation and vitality at the heart of the start-up community in Wales.
“Whilst we have a flourishing tech and creative industry, the awards have also shown the new businesses are growing and making an impact across all sectors of the economy.
“In particular, I would like to congratulate Freight Logistics Solutions in building an international business that is already having a major impact in such a short space of time and I look forward to following their continued success over the next few years”.

Liz Brookes, Founder of the Wales Start-Up Awards and Managing Director of Grapevine Events Management, said:
“The Wales Start-Up awards were founded with the single purpose of providing a platform to showcase the very best of new businesses in Wales.
“This year has proven once again that Wales is home to a wealth of entrepreneurial talent -businesses who have made a significant impact, not just within the sectors of which they operate, but also across the local, national and in some instances, the global economy.
“Each of this year’s finalists are worthy winners in their own right and we very much look forward to seeing what lies ahead for each of them as they take the next step in their journey.”
